THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS

ITHACA COLLEGE EARL MCCARROLL STUDIO THEATER

DIRECTOR: PAULA MURRAY COLE

LIGHTING DESIGN: SHANE HENNESSY

SCENIC DESIGN: JESSE HARRON

THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS PRESENTS A CLASSIC COMMEDIA DELL'ARTE TALE OF LOVERS, DECEPTION, AND ONE CRAZED MANSERVANT WHO JUST WANTS SOMEONE TO FEED HIM. THE STORY FOLLOWS TRUFFALDINO, A SERVANT WHO THROUGH A CONVOLUTED SERIES OF EVENTS. ENDS UP DOUBLE BOOKING HIMSELF BETWEEN TWO MASTERS, AND IS FORCED TO NAVIGATE A TRICKY TALE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER, YOUNG LOVERS FORCED APART BY FAMILY, AND TWO LOVEBIRDS FORCED APART BY CIRCUMSTANCE.

THE FOOD IN THIS PLAY WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT TO THE DIRECTOR, SCENIC DESIGNER, AND MYSELF. WE DECIDED THAT THERE WOULD BE REAL FOOD ONSTAGE, SO THAT THE MANY SMELLS THAT WERE ENTICING THE MAIN CHARACTER TRUFFALDINO WOULD SIMILARLY ENTICE THE AUDIENCE. WE ALSO USED SEVERAL CHANDELIERS MADE OUT OF KITCHEN UTENSILS IN ORDER TO BRING TO LIFE THE COMEDIC, STREET- PERFORMANCE NATURE OF THE PIECE. IN THE FINAL SCENE, WE SATISFIED THESE CRAVINGS WITH PIZZA FOR THE ENTIRE AUDIENCE- HANDED OUT DURING A HEARTY RENDITION OF 'THAT'S AMORE'.
