THE PROCESS

LIGHTING DESIGN: SHANE HENNESSY
SCENIC DESIGN: SASKA TRIVUNDZA
PROJECTION DESIGN: VIVIENNE SHAW

The Process is an adaptation of Franz Kafka's The Trial, conceived and directed by Danica Selem, with portions devised in collaboration with the company. It speaks to the experiences of immigrant women, and tells the stories of their experiences with trying to make a life for themselves in a new country, and how they are handling their process and that of their families. The lighting for this piece emphasizes the three levels of the play in order of how heightened they are. On the cleanest, most natural and raw level are the interview sections of the play, where the cast speaks about their own or their family's experiences with immigration. The next level up becomes more dramatic, where we enter into the world of The Trial. The third level is the Gatekeeper Scenes, where we see the tone shift darker and the lighting become much more heightened and dramatic.
